Eyeliners: My Top 10

If you are a makeup lover like myself, you will find yourself constantly searching for the perfect eyeliner. Whether it’s to create a fierce wing, for a smokey lashline, or for a long wear product for the waterline you will consistently be adding to your collection of liners. I am all about long wear products and whenever I hear about a new or improved liner being released, I can’t help but pick it up! Perfecting a quick and effortless wing is a struggle for sure, so I’m always trying out products to make the process as easy as possible. Tarte has recently released a new eyeliner called “Tarteist Clay Paint” Liner and from what I have seen it looks pretty awesome. Have any of you tried it? Is it a must have? Lol

These are my favorite eyeliners of the year. Whether you are a pencil, gel or liquid girl. I have included a higher end option along with a drugstore choice for everyone’s budget.

Gel liner.

My personal favorite type of liner is gel. I learned how to perfect eyeliner with this product and I find it to be the easiest to work with especially with the right brush. What do I look for in a gel liner? Opaque, creamy, and long lasting.

These are my favorites: The Maybelline Gel liner is the gel product that I find myself reaching for regularly. The price point is great and it’s the liner that I also keep in my artist kit.  The formula is extremely smooth, super black and lasts forever. Some liners usually dry out pretty close to the bottom of the container, but this one stays true to the formula until the last bit of product is gone. Motive Cosmetics Little Black Dress Gel liner is another amazing product. I can’t stop raving about this eyeliner. A slightly stiffer product that goes on easily and stays in place all day. Sigma Gel Liner is another favorite of mine. I love how creamy the formula is, and how plausible the product remains until you perfect your look. Inglot Gel Liner is one of those products that I have a love/hate relationship with. It is one of the blackest eyeliners I’ve ever used, and the formula dries super fast but it’s almost too fast. If you don’t move quickly with this product, it is difficult to remove. But if you get that perfect eye (quickly) you will love the opaqueness and matte formula of this eyeliner.

Pencil Liner.

I love a good pencil liner. Although it is not my preference for a winged look, because it is more difficult to achieve a sharp crisp line. But pencil liners are great for a smokey lashline or to use on the waterline. When shopping for a pencil liner, I look for a product that glides easily, because I don’t want anything that will tug on my eye area, a product that will last for hours and has a rich color payoff with one or two swipes.

These are my favorites:

Urban Decay “Perversion” is my holy grail liner. It is super black and lasts throughout the day. Too Faced Perfect Eye Waterproof liner is a great alternative. Although the color payoff isn’t as dark as the Urban Decay, the products definitely lasts all day even for teary eyes. It is one of my favorites for my brides.  Rimmel Scandaleyes Waterproof Kohl pencil is my drugstore favorite. It is comparable to higher brands with a deep, rich tone.

Liquid Liner.

Liquid liner will give you the smoothest and more precise line ever, but can also be the bane of your existence. The precision of liquid liner is awesome but this product definitely takes some practice. I prefer liquid liner when achieving a clean line over a glittery eye. Compared to gel liner, liquid lays over the glitter and fills in the gaps without disrupting the tiny glitter particles. I also prefer a liquid liner if I want an intense liner with a bare eye.

These are my favorites: NYC liquid liner a great product and really inexpensive. Super black, dries completely matte and the applicator is manageable. However, this product isn’t great with layering. After about two layers, it can begin to flake slightly. But I do think for the price point, this product is a winner. Stila Liquid liner pen is amazing! The super fine felt tip makes the execution precise and smooth. The finish is a semi gloss formula that doesn’t budge. NYX Super Skinny Marker is a great alternative to Stila. The tip of the liner is super smooth and is stiff enough to create a precise line without difficulty.

  1. Thank You So Much!!!!!! I’ve been following so many talented make up artists. And trying to find that perfect eyeliner. Thank you for taking the time to let your followers know what you like and what you have in your kit! For your next article can you do one about brush cleansers? XOXO

  2. The Kat Von D liner creates a perfect line with an extra fine tip for a precise wing. My only issue is the ink flow will occasionally stop. 🙀 I find myself scribbling on my hand to get it going but otherwise, it’s really easy to use and I’ve spent 45 min correcting errors in the morning!
